Stories Matter: Time to Rev Up Our Storybanking Game

2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday

Columbia A

Suzette Gardner, Family Values @ Work and Labor Project for Working Families
Jocelyn Mazurkiewicz, New York Paid Leave Coalition & New York Union Child Care Coalition

Worker stories can create momentum, inject humanity into our work, and make our campaigns relevant and urgent to the media, policymakers and targets. And while we all have witnessed the power of sharing real stories of the real people we encounter in our work, our infrastructure to recruit, document, retain and promote these stories is often starved – or nonexistent. No more excuses: it’s time to invest in storybanking. This interactive session will offer best practices for organizers, advocates, policy, communications and development staff in capturing stories of the people who are demanding the change we want to see in our communities.
